Search
The image search tool provides a quick and easy list of results that corresponds to your specific search. Accessing these images also enables you to locate pertinent information on your topic of interest.
Here's how to perform an Image Search.
Choose the appropriate Grade Level Tab
netTrekker is divided into three sections that retrieve results specific to particular
grade levels. Choose the appropriate view by clicking on one of the following
tabs:
![]()
This will enable you to isolate the results deemed to be appropriate at this level. The colors of the tabs also correlate to the color of the subject topics and the features menu, and serve as a reminder of your current view.
Type in a keyword
In the Keyword box at the top of the page, type in the name of the image
that you are attempting to locate and click on the word "Image." To optimize
your search result, use the most specific word possible. netTrekker will deliver images related to your keyword.

Recommended Search
Suggested searches are provided in six separate categories. Click on the "Image" search view link to access these recommendations. These recommendations vary for each grade level. To view a different set of image recommendations, click on a different grade level tab, then the "Image" link. You will then be able to view the different topics for the same six categories.
Getting an Image Search Result
netTrekker will quickly provide Image Results from sites that have been
approved by educators. Each Image Results page will display up to nine
results and their corresponding filenames. The total number of images found
is shown in the upper right hand corner of the result.
Clicking on "View Image Details" prompts a new window to open with the website that contains the chosen image. This process allows you to open as many new windows as necessary, enabling you to continue to view and manipulate your Image Results pages. If you prefer to isolate your results to one window, you can click on the image itself and it will replace the previous site. netTrekker will remain open in the background.
Additonal images can be accessed by scrolling to the bottom of the screen and clicking on additional pages. The next> and <previous links also allow you to travel between pages.

Performing a Grade Leap
A grade leap is designed to isolate the images that correspond to your
desired search. The results vary from one grade level to the next and can
be changed by clicking on Elementary School, Middle School,
or High School. The number of results available at each level is
listed next to the level title.
Changing Search Views
Changing your search view allows you to manipulate the type of results
you receive on a specific keyword. You can change your image search results
by clicking on one of the following links:
See Search Views for more information.
Images Frames
Searching for images also gives you access to the content where the image
can be found. A frame is placed at the top of these sites that provides
additional information, including a description of the website.
The URL can be found at the top of the frame, allowing you to make a reference
to the site or return to it later. If the link is unresponsive, you can
click on Report Problem to report
an issue you might be experiencing with the website. You may also choose
to hide all this information by clicking on
.

Image collections are listed under the heading Free and Friendly Images. Please remember to check the individual websites for instruction regarding citing the sources for these images.
