Searching for a Famous Person

Using netTrekker Search's Famous Person Search, you can quickly and easily locate information about well-known people, including political leaders, athletes, scientists, artists, writers, and more.

To perform a Famous Person Search, click "Famous Person" in the My Tools widget. Your results will reflect which academic level in which you begin your search; e.g. if you search from the Elementary academic level, you will receive a Search Result which contains only those resources which are available in the Elementary section of netTrekker Search.

Famous Person Search enables you to focus your Search Results to include only sites that contain information about the famous person of your choice.

• Search by Name

When you click on the Famous Person link in the My Tools widget, you will be taken to the Famous Person Search page. If you are looking for a specific famous person, you can enter the name in the Search box at the top of the page. The name you enter can be a full name, just a last name, or even just a first name. This will produce a list of Famous People who have that name. Notice that the Search View has defaulted to Famous Person.

• Create a Famous Person List

Generate a list of famous people based on your own criteria. Place a check in each box that fits your requirements in the categories of Gender, Time Period, Occupation/Profession, and/or Ethnic/Cultural Heritage. You may check more than one box in each category. You may also leave all boxes unchecked in a category. This type of Famous Person Search is useful if you want a list, for example, of 15th century mathematicians or 19th century American authors.

Once you generate a list of famous people, you can click on any name on the list to get a Search Result page.

Let's say you are on the home page in High School netTrekker Search. If you click on "Famous Person" in the My Tools widget, enter "Martin" in the Search box, and click , you will receive a list of more than 15 Martins found in netTrekker Search. Some of these "Martins" are first names and some are last names. Click on the name of your choice to go to a Search Result page containing a list of resources about that person.

You will also note that there is a Timeline icon () next to some of these names. Click on to go to a Timeline based on the dates of this famous person's life.

If you have a particular category, but not a particular person in mind, use the categories in the Famous Person Search tool.

• Let's say you are interested in American women authors of the 18th century. Just click the boxes next to "Female," "18th Century," "Authors/Writers," and "American." Then click .

Click on any of these names to go to a Search Result page of resources about that person.

• If you want Eastern European Philosophers, regardless of gender or time period, click only the boxes next to "Philosophers" and "European [East]" but do not put checks in any boxes in the Gender or Time Period sections. Then click .
